Craig Hertz

 

Craig Hertz, CEO

As founder and CEO, Craig oversees strategic planning, business development and exploring expansion opportunities.  Craig’s background includes site investigation and remediation, as well as the business experience associated with building a fast-growing environmental and engineering consulting firm.  Craig’s commitment to his vision of a national consulting firm and his dedication to his team have been instrumental in the success of the company he founded in 1992.  Craig holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC San Diego.

 

 

Holly Neber, PresidentHolly Neber

As President, Holly is responsible for the day-to-day operations of AEI, building on our reputation for responsiveness and quality consulting to further grow the company and our long-standing relationships with AEI’s clients and industry partners.  Holly has worked in environmental consulting since 1996, serving with AEI since 1999. Holly’s project management and technical background provide a unique perspective to identify opportunities for creating efficiencies within operations while maintaining a primary focus on quality consulting and client satisfaction.  Holly holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, a Masters of Education, and is a Registered Environmental Assessor (REA) in the State of California.  She is a member of the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) E1527 Task Group, and provides client training and seminars on ASTM standards, reducing environmental liability through due diligence, and environmental requirements of the US Small Business Administration (SBA).  Holly is an active member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) East Bay, International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and affiliate member of the Environmental Bankers Association (EBA).

 

Peter McIntyre, Executive Vice President of Environmental ServicesPeter McIntyre

Peter manages AEI’s northern California site investigation and remediation services group and is responsible for these services nationwide.  Since joining AEI in 1998, Peter has worked in environmental due diligence, site characterization, and remediation services, and currently provides client management and technical oversight for a wide variety of projects along with his senior management role at AEI.  Peter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and Master of Business Administration, both from the University of California at Berkeley.  Peter is a California Professional Geologist and Registered Environmental Assessor, along with being licensed in Nevada and Illinois and is a member of the Groundwater Resources Association and Urban Land Institute.

 

 

Paul Hinkston, Executive Vice PresidentPeter McIntyre

Paul oversees regional strategies and development of AEI's network of regional offices through collaboration with our Regional Director staff across the US; including project oversight, project senior reviews, client management, personnel mentorship, business development and marketing. Paul began his career in the environmental field working for the State Water Sources Control Board in California prior to joining AEI. Since joining AEI in 1999, Paul has worked in many aspects of the environmental consulting field including environmental due diligence, site characterization, and remediation services. In 2005, after successfully managing AEI’s Southern California Due Diligence and Subsurface Mitigation Departments for 4 years, Paul became the Regional Director of AEI’s New Jersey Office. In the last 5 years, Paul has developed an intimate knowledge of the regulatory requirements of the Northeastern states and currently provides client management and regulatory liaisons’ for a wide variety of projects along with his senior management role at AEI.

Orion Alcalay

Orion Alcalay, Executive Vice President of Due Diligence Services

Orion is responsible for ensuring the consistency and quality of due diligence services throughout AEI.  Orion provides expertise on a company-wide basis to ensure compliance and satisfaction of client requirements for Environmental and Engineering due diligence assessments.  Since joining AEI in 1999, Orion has been involved in many aspects of AEI’s services including environmental and engineering project management, departmental management and business development.  Orion earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master of Science in Environmental Management.  Orion is a Registered Environmental Assessor (REA) in the State of California, and is an active member of the Environmental Bankers Association (EBA).

 

 

Mark Nobler

Mark Nobler, Executive Vice President of Business Development

Mark manages national accounts and client relationships, as well as oversees AEI’s Business Development division. Since joining AEI in 2001, Mark has helped rapidly expand AEI’s footprint throughout the United States by focusing on sales operations, revenue opportunities, customer service and expanding strategic partnerships with clientele.  Mark began his professional career in 1994 in hardware and software holding key positions in sales, managing and developing major accounts for internet start-ups and mid to large corporations.  Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of the Pacific and is a member and affiliate member of Mortgage Bankers Association, Environmental Bankers Association, International Conference of Shopping Centers and National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders.

Brian Cochran

Brian Cochran, Senior Vice President

Brian’s experience in environmental consulting dates to 1998, and he provides due diligence consulting services to attorneys, lenders, and equity owners of commercial real estate.  His consulting services have allowed his clients to complete large scale acquisitions within aggressive timing constraints. His experience includes management and completion of numerous large scale portfolios throughout the United States.  Mr. Cochran is responsible for a variety of aspects of AEI’s regional and national operations, which include project oversight, cost estimating and proposal writing, business development and client management.  Brian has a BS in Environmental Management.

 

 

Gene Belli

Gene Belli, Senior Vice President

Gene’s professional career began in 1984 performing environmental and geotechnical investigations at military installations, nuclear power plants, landfills, waste water treatment facilities, and industrial facilities.  Gene also served as an Environmental Manager for a Regional and International bank, where he was responsible for the development of the bank’s environmental department including development of risk management policies and procedures.  In that role, Gene was responsible for retaining consultants, contractors and legal counsel to assist the bank in evaluating and managing risk and liabilities.  Gene’s prior experience also includes managing operations and oversight of due diligence assessments on a national and international basis.  Gene holds a Masters in Environmental Science.

M. Evans Howell, Senior Vice PresidentEvans Howell

Mr. Howell is a nationally known and highly respected pioneer in the environmental and engineering due diligence industry. During his career that has spanned nearly twenty years, Mr. Howell has spearheaded the development and growth of some of the most successful due diligence practices in the history of the industry. Mr. Howell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana, and his Masters in Environmental Science from California State University at Fullerton. Mr. Howell was an original Principal of a national real estate due diligence firm that went on to prosper internationally, and was ultimately acquired by a Fortune 500 company. At this international Fortune 500 Company, Mr. Howell was responsible for the business development and overall management of technical operations throughout the entire central United States, Mexico South America, and the Caribbean. Most recently, Mr. Howell was an owner/principal at a national environmental/engineering consulting firm, where he was thoroughly involved in the development and growth of the national due diligence platform, and was the largest producer at the company. In addition to his roles in business development and technical management, Mr. Howell has distinguished himself as an expert in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac due diligence, and is published on the subject. Mr. Howell has vast technical knowledge and experience with environmental site assessments and property condition assessments, commercial valuation/appraisal, and construction project management.

Stephen Graham, Senior Vice President

Stephen GrahamStephen Graham is a licensed Professional Engineer, and is also a Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts. His background includes over 25 years of experience in environmental due diligence, investigation, design and construction/cleanup for clients in various sectors, including commercial real estate, industrial, financial institution, higher education, hospitals, and insurance. He has issued hundreds of ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Property Condition Assessments, and asbestos/mold/moisture surveys and prepared permit applications, feasibility studies, and engineering designs. In addition, he has undertaken construction management for numerous solid and hazardous waste, indoor air quality, and groundwater remediation projects; conducted risk characterizations and assessments; and directed site cleanup and demolition/decommissioning projects under federal TSCA, RCRA, UST, CERCLA, NRC, and state regulatory programs.

He has been a member of the ICSC New England Idea Exchange Planning Committee since 2008, served on the ICSC 2012 National NextGeneration Annual Meeting Planning Committee, is a member of the Attorneys and Executives Council for Real Estate, and is active in Corenet.

Steve Maki, Vice President of Operations

Steve oversees all aspects of AEI’s operations, including project process flow and efficiency, vendor, real estate and contract management, and the development and oversight of business tracking metrics and other internal reporting tools. Steve has worked in the environmental consulting field since 1992, joining AEI in 2010. He has a diverse background that includes environmental due diligence, business development, litigation support, strategic planning, budget development and P&L analysis, mergers & acquisitions and operational logistics. Steve formerly served as Vice President of Operations for a U.S. based multi-national commercial real estate consulting firm. Steve holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences and is a Registered Environmental Assessor (REA) in the State of California. 

 

Karla Smith, Vice President of Program Development

Karla SmithKarla is a licensed Professional Geologist with more than 24 years of experience in the environmental consulting field and is responsible for the management and overall consulting services provided for national clients. As the Vice President of Program Development, Karla is charged with the continuous re-development and integration of AEI’s strategies, processes and quality initiatives to align our practices to better fulfill our client’s expectations and goals for their projects. Karla provides technical lead responsibilities for all phases of environmental assessments and corrective action including, but not limited to, transactional assessments, subsurface investigations, aquifer testing, soil and groundwater remediation, risk assessments, industrial hygiene and indoor air quality investigations and mitigations, and vapor intrusion assessments and corrective action. Other technical areas include landfill evaluation and mitigation, site redevelopment including permitting, waste evaluation and disposition determination, wetland and natural resource evaluation, as well as regulatory interaction and expert witness testimony. Karla’s clients include companies with both debt and equity interests such as oil and gas companies, large industrial facilities, transportation companies, national railway firms as well as municipal light rail initiatives, municipalities and counties, federal institutions, insurance firms, real estate investors, mortgage capital, banking and lending institutions, as well as owners and developers of commercial retail and multi-family residential properties. Karla received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and the University of Louisiana in Monroe, respectively. Karla also holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Karla’s business skills includes strategic planning and work flow process development, organizational team building, resource allocation and customer service enhancement. By combining her science and business education, with her experience, Karla can fully evaluate the technical and business risk decisions faced by her clients.

Kyle Christiansen, Vice President of Building Sciences and Technology

Mr. Christiansen is a licensed architect and member of the AIA. He has over 30 years of experience in the field of architecture, with almost 20 years of experience consulting in due-diligence for commercial properties. His architectural work includes project management for educational, medical, multi-family, and office building types with special emphasis in renovation, adaptive re-use, and historic restoration. Kyle has worked both nationally and internationally as an architectural consultant. His due-diligence work has taken him to 6 countries and 49 states. He has personally completed property condition assessments on over 1100 properties and has been a sought after consultant for individual investors and large multi-national companies. Fannie Mae has engaged Kyle in due-diligence for distressed properties and for expert testimony. He was Vice President of a successful due-diligence company for 15 years, where he maintained a license in asbestos inspection. He was later Principal Architect for one of the 100 largest engineering companies in the US where he created training seminars for engineers preparing for due-diligence assessment work. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois (BS) and SUNY at Buffalo (MA).
