AEI Consultants is currently looking for a full time Project Accountant to be based in our Walnut Creek, CA headquarters. This position is fully responsible for project cost and financial management of various engineering and construction projects including revenue recognition, accrued expenses, WIP, margins, budgets, billing, client inquiries, and verifying employee’s chargeable time in accordance with the established accounting standards, policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist and work in partnership with all project management teams including Division Directors to meet project target margins and deadlines.
Effectively communicate with Project Managers (PM), Division and Regional Directors and all offices regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services related to billing.
Prepare billing package containing draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including applicable backup for approval by the A/R Manager.
Manage Purchase Order accruals, cancellations and perform reconciliations each month and year end.
Apply contract terms and conditions to all aspects of project financial management.
Assess projects to identify potential additional services, communicate with the PM and A/R Manager as to your observations and actions taken.
Calculate and reconcile WIP researching any unbilled issues to optimize billing.
Review projects for labor cross charge application and coordinate with PM and other management.
Calculate percentage of completion using GAAP procedures, industry knowledge and project information.
Provide accounts payables team with advice on client billing relative to consultant invoicing and reimbursable expenses maintaining a continuous line of communication to clear any open issues.
Work with the cash receipts team to reconcile variances that occur in the application of cash.
Generate and distribute project profitability reports.
Write off any uncollectible receivables, labor or expenses, as directed by the A/R Manager or Controller.
Review time sheets as needed.
Monthly analysis of P & L accounts as assigned by the Corporate Controller.
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations, as directed by the Controller.
Recommend and implement agreed process improvements to the billing cycle.
Prepare special project analyses for the PMs, Division Directors and others as needed.
Provide year-end support to Corporate Controller for Reviewed Financial Statements requirements that may include research and reconciliations.
Perform additional assignments as directed by the Corporate Controller.
Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience:
Must have a minimum of 2 to 3 years in A/E industry in project accounting.
Bachelor’s Degree or some college courses in accounting or business preferred.
Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including experience in spreadsheets, word processing and accounting software.
Knowledge of Deltek Vision or similar accounting platform a plus.
A thorough working knowledge of standard contract terms, including hourly, lump sum, not-to-exceed.
Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities.

The ideal candidate will have 1 to 5 years of experience and/or knowledge in the performance of various environmental consulting projects focused on commercial real estate, including environmental due diligence, environmental reviews, state and federal regulatory programs, field investigations, and/or basic understanding of commercial real estate lending and finance, and will have superior writing time management, and organizational skills. Performance of environmental due diligence types of work will be required under the supervision of an Environmental Professional. We are seeking a professional, dedicated, enthusiastic addition to a collaborative office environment with the following experience, skills and attributes:
Have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering or geology-related science
